About the event
BackRhoades Productions presents its Jazz, Blues, and World Music concert series at Desert Rose Mediterranean restaurant. In this edition of the series, BRP welcomes the music of the Ollie "Basie-O" Elder Ensemble. The ensemble features Jeff McCarty - keyboards, Rahshad Muhammad -Trumpet, “Basie-O” Elder - Bass and Don ("Pappa D") Littleton - Drums.
Los Angeles native Ollie "Basie-O" Elder, Jr. began his musical journey on violin and viola before discovering the instrument that would become his voice-the bass. For more than 40 years, he performed and recorded with the late David Ornette Cherry, who became his mentor and introduced him to the world of avant-garde jazz.
Bassist, composer, producer, and recording engineer, Basie-O has worked across jazz, R&B, reggae, and spoken word, recording and performing with artists including Wadada Leo Smith, Thomas Mapfumo, Justo Almario, Mekiel Reuben, and Taalam Acey. As a bandleader, he leads the Basie-O Group and The…
